Session: Uplifting Community Priorities: Museums and Connected Learning EcosystemsSunday, April 61 - 2:30 PM Location: Ithaca Downtown Conference Center About: A connected learning ecosystem unites people by combining resources to support engaging educational experiences. But what is a connected learning ecosystem? How can you leverage your existing relationships to build or connect with one in your community? Join thought-leaders and museum practitioners as they present the principles of connected learning and discover tools you can use within your organization to develop mutually beneficial partnerships in your community.Presenters: Ali Jackson, Director of Programs and Partnerships, Sciencenter Ali Jackson directs the Sciencenter's local education efforts, both onsite and in collaboration with community-based organizations. She leads the Sciencenter's participation in national projects, including for the National Informal STEM Education Network (NISE Net) and leads a Community of Practice of regional museums as part of the NASA-funded Learning Ecosystems Northeast project.Catherine McCarthy, Project Manager Senior - NISE Network, Center for Innovation in Informal STEM Learning School for the Future of Innovation in Society, Arizona State University Catherine McCarthy works for Arizona State University as the Project Manager Senior for the National Informal STEM Education Network (NISE Network) in the Center for Innovation in Informal STEM Learning in the School for the Future of Innovation in Society. McCarthy has more than twenty years of experience developing, implementing, and studying STEM learning and public engagement on a variety of science and technology topics.Lann Dolen, Public Program Coordinator, RMSC Cumming Nature Center Lann Dolen at Rochester Museum and Science Center's Cumming Nature Center runs the Finger Lakes Connected Learning System (FLX CLE). The FLX CLE provided grant funding to five participants this year who are doing climate and data projects with K-12 youth. They meet virtually through out the year and are planning an in-person retreat so that like-minded individuals can get to know each other, collaborate, and share ideas. Jacob Baldwin, Climate Change in Action Partnership Coordinator, Children's Museum at Saratoga Jacob Baldwin facilitates the Climate Change Action Partnership at the Children's Museum at Saratoga. CCAP primarily focuses on developing different ways to engage local youth with interactive, hands-on programming related to climate change and the Hudson River Watershed. |
Conference Cancellation Policy
If for any reason, MANY cancels the conference, we will issue you a full refund.
If you cancel your registration before Monday March 31, that request must be made in writing via email to conference@nysmuseums.org. We will refund you the full amount of your registration, minus a $45 administrative fee.
Refunds requested after March 31 will not be granted, including requests made based on absence due to illness, late arrival and/or weather conditions. No refunds will be issued on special event tickets at any point due to restaurants and caterers requiring payment in advance.
Special event ticket purchases are non-refundable; restaurants and caterers require payment in advance. you are welcome to give or sell them to a colleague attending the conference. Please notify MANY staff in advance of the conference regarding any transfer of special event tickets.Please see your hotel confirmation email for your individual hotel reservation cancellation policy.
Video/Photography Policy
By registering for and attending our Annual Conference "Cultivating Community: Looking In, Reaching Out" you grant the Museum Association of New York (MANY) and its authorized representatives permission to film, photograph, or otherwise record your participation in the conference and associated special events.
You further agree that such images, photographs, and recordings may be used by MANY without your prior approval in any form and for any lawful purpose including, without limitation, promoting MANY. Such use will not entitle you to any credit or compensation.
You release MANY, its officers, and employees from any liability connected with the use of any image, photograph, or recording taken during MANY's Annual Conference and associated special events.
Conference Code of Conduct
The Museum Association of New York (MANY) is dedicated to providing a safe, inclusive, and welcoming conference experience for all participants. All attendees are expected to follow this Code of Conduct, which applies to all pre-conference workshops, concurrent sessions, special events, and capstone experiences.
