Tell Me What You Want (What You Really, Really Want): An Honest Conversation about Constituent Engagement

Despite thoughtful planning, the Historic House Trust of New York City and the Greater Hudson Heritage Network found that their recently completed History Unpaused project yielded unanticipated results. Using the successes and challenges of the project as a case study, this webinar will explore the widely relevant and perennial question of “how do we know what our constituents want?”

Giulietta helps support 23 City-owned historic sites operated by independent nonprofit partners. She has an in-depth understanding of the unique needs of NYC’s house museums as well as a nuanced view of the role of layered stakeholders in maintaining cultural heritage. Giulietta holds a BA in Archaeology from McGill University, and has experience working in various sectors related to history including cultural resource management, historic preservation, and museum administration.

Priscilla has experience in strategic planning, program production, historical interpretation, organizational restructuring, development and fundraising, planned giving, public relations and marketing, finance, and general management. She has specialized expertise in combining museum resources with interpretive design; development of concepts, content and implementation of public and educational programs; and educational program and project management and evaluation. Priscilla holds a BA from Syracuse University and a MA in Nonprofit Administration from Goucher College.

Kerry is an archivist, librarian, and museum program director experienced in program and webinar production, website and social media management, historical interpretation and collection care, public relations, marketing and design, and grant administration. She presents GHHN workshops and conducts site visits for support and advice on collection care best practices. Kerry holds a BA from Providence College, a MS in Library and Information Science from Simmons College, and a NYS Public Librarian’s Professional Certificate.

Meredith Sorin Horsford is the Executive Director of the Historic House Trust and Immediate Past Executive Director of the Dyckman Farmhouse Museum Alliance overseeing the preservation of the 1784 historic structure. Previously, she served as the Executive Director of the Gracie Mansion Conservancy, the Deputy Director and Director of Property Stewardship & Acquisitions at the Historic House Trust of NYC. Meredith holds a MA from the University of Delaware, a BA from SUNY College at Geneseo, and a certificate in Grantmaking and Foundations from New York University.

Ran Yan

Lewis Latimer House Museum

Ran Yan works to engage diverse audiences through inclusive programs rooted in African American inventor and humanist Lewis H. Latimer whose legacy and life story is used as a point of departure from which to examine issues of race, class, immigration and contemporary events. Before moving to NYC, Ran studied architecture and preservation at Tongji University in Shanghai, and completed her MA in Historic Preservation Planning at Cornell University.
