Session: Planting Passion with Purpose: Sowing the Seeds of EngagementMonday, April 711 AM - 12:15 PM Location: Ithaca Downtown Conference Center About: Passion can grow people in communities from museum visitors into volunteers, professionals or members. The Intrepid Museum and Queens Botanical Garden have developed successful models that foster a full engagement cycle for visitors, members, and volunteers alike. In this session, our institutions will explore the value of this cycle and the meaningful impact it has had on the community, on the organization, and on the individuals themselves. Participants will walk away with a framework to strengthen a multifaceted intergenerational community at their own institutions.Presenters: Ellen R. Peiser, Senior Museum Educator for Access Programs, Intrepid Museum Ellen Peiser is a Senior Museum Educator for Access Programs at the Intrepid Museum. As part of her work on the education team, Ellen develops programs and resources for visitors with a range of learning styles and abilities. Ellen has a MSED in Studies in Education from Bank Street College and a B.A. in History from the University of Mary Washington.Regina Forlenza, Assistant Director of Visitor Services, Queens Botanical Garden Regina is a dedicated museum professional with 18+ years’ experience in the cultural sector. At QBG, Regina leads the Visitor Experience, cultivating programs to engage diverse communities. In 2024, The American Alliance of Museums selected Regina as a peer advisor for a nation-wide Social Impact Study (MSIIP). Regina holds a BFA in Fine Arts from St. Johns University and pursued her MA in Art History at Queens College.Cindy Donald, Visitor Services Manager, Queens Botanical Gardens Cindy Donald is the Garden’s Visitor Services Manager and has been with the organization for 16 years, starting as a volunteer. Alongside Regina, she manages the day-to-day operations in Admissions & Parkingand the Store. Cindy has developed programs and introduced food and beverage service to the Garden. She works closely with volunteers to create meaningful experiences that foster relationships and enhance the Garden experience. Cindy attended St. John's University for a B.S. in Journalism. Tyler Saenz De Viteri, Membership Coordinator, Queens Botanical Gardens Tyler Saenz De Viteri is a Membership Coordinator working directly alongside the Development and Visitor Service teams of Queens Botanical Garden and has been working within customer service for over six years. She is responsible for the management of QBG’s membership program, membership engagement and recruitment - contributing to QBG’s goal of community enrichment. Tyler holds a B.A. in History from Stony Brook University and a M.A. in Museum Professions from Seton Hall University. |
Conference Cancellation Policy
If for any reason, MANY cancels the conference, we will issue you a full refund.
If you cancel your registration before Monday March 31, that request must be made in writing via email to conference@nysmuseums.org. We will refund you the full amount of your registration, minus a $45 administrative fee.
Refunds requested after March 31 will not be granted, including requests made based on absence due to illness, late arrival and/or weather conditions. No refunds will be issued on special event tickets at any point due to restaurants and caterers requiring payment in advance.
Special event ticket purchases are non-refundable; restaurants and caterers require payment in advance. you are welcome to give or sell them to a colleague attending the conference. Please notify MANY staff in advance of the conference regarding any transfer of special event tickets.Please see your hotel confirmation email for your individual hotel reservation cancellation policy.
Video/Photography Policy
By registering for and attending our Annual Conference "Cultivating Community: Looking In, Reaching Out" you grant the Museum Association of New York (MANY) and its authorized representatives permission to film, photograph, or otherwise record your participation in the conference and associated special events.
You further agree that such images, photographs, and recordings may be used by MANY without your prior approval in any form and for any lawful purpose including, without limitation, promoting MANY. Such use will not entitle you to any credit or compensation.
You release MANY, its officers, and employees from any liability connected with the use of any image, photograph, or recording taken during MANY's Annual Conference and associated special events.
Conference Code of Conduct
The Museum Association of New York (MANY) is dedicated to providing a safe, inclusive, and welcoming conference experience for all participants.
