Capstone Experience: Opendore: A Community Journey of Preservation and Perseverance

Tuesday, April 8

1 - 3 PM

Location: Howland Stone Store Museum, Aurora, NY

About:

The Howland Stone Store Museum will provide a tour of a recently completed building rehabilitation, followed by a panel discussion. Opendore is the historic home of the Howland family, leaders in the women’s suffrage movement, and is listed on National and State Historic Registries.

Opendore was rehabilitated from a long-abandoned, fallen-down ruin thanks to strong community support; and generous funding from NY State, private foundations, and individual contributors. The project was heavily dependent upon thousands of hours of volunteer labor provided by more than forty community members over several years.

The Opendore project has significantly increased capacity and community involvement.
