    Job Description

    • Manage event details for public programs
    • Work with the Director and graphic designer to coordinate and prepare event promotion and marketing materials; oversee distribution
    • Take responsibility for documenting all exhibition openings
    • Maintain the museum website, keeping it up to date
    • Oversee daytoday operations of the museum’s businessrelated and revenue generating operations; maintain records, bills and correspondence
    • Interview, train, schedule and supervise parttime and student museum attendants
    • Order all museum supplies and manage bookkeeping work using Excel
    • Supervise class visits and manage tours of the Museum
    • Facilitate the development of exhibition design and guide outside contracted work in building sets to the customized needs of the exhibition design
    • Install and deinstall exhibitions
    • Work as a team with museum curators, visiting artists, faculty, staff and students
    • Train employees and student workers on proper art handling and installation methods
    • Pack, unpack and crate art objects
    • Install art using accepted museum standards and practices
    • Light exhibitions
    • Maintain inventory of tools, equipment and supplies for exhibition preparation and collections maintenance
    • Point person for security company, outside contractors and physical plant
    • Occasionally assist Curator of Collections as courier for artwork
    • Assist with the condition reports of incoming and outgoing art objects
    • Assist with photography and organization of the collection
    • Generate renewal and thank you letters and maintain FileMaker Pro database records for Friends of the Museum membership
    • Assist with administrative and preparatory tasks assigned by the Director

    Formal Education: BFA required, MFA desired

    Experience: 3+ years of experience in museum or gallery operations is desired


    Additional Knowledge/Skills:

    • Knowledge of ceramic art, historically, conceptually and technically is desired as well as general conversational knowledge of art history.
    • Proficiency in handling a variety of media, including painting, sculpture, worksonpaper, furniture, ceramics, metalwork, glass, video, digital imagery, and timebased media, as well as knowledge of the exhibition furniture required to display and support such art. Familiarity with architectural and design plans.
    • Computer proficiency – Microsoft Office, Outlook, Adobe Suite and CAD
    • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel and currier objects as necessary.
    • Excellent communication and timemanagement skills related to organizing, leading, and working with artists and collaborating with colleagues across departments are required. Interpersonal skills (establish and maintain effective working relationships) in general are very important as well as the ability to work well under pressure. Effective communication skills are particular to supervising student workstudy, parttime staff and volunteers. A sense of humor and the desire to achieve excellence while working for the benefit of the whole organization are essential.
