    American Pomeroy Historic Genealogical Association, Syracuse, NY

    Summary: The American Pomeroy Historic Genealogical Association (APHGA), a non-profit organization promoting the interest in and study of American history through genealogical research, seeks an individual who is passionate about family history and solving family history challengesto be responsible for the daily management of the APHGA.

    Essential Functions:

    · Research the heritage of the American Pomeroys and their allied families.

    · Responsible for the research and expansion of the Pomeroy Anvil Trail which places monuments across the United States.

    · Oversee the care, maintenance and accessibility of the collection through inventory, accessioning, planning, research, digitization and professional storage methods.

    · Ensure accurate data entry into the RootsMagic Genealogy Database.

    · Organize electronic data files into an easily accessible database that facilitates rapid searches of key data.

    · Manage websites and social media communications.

    · Manage multiple book and on-line publishing projects.

    · Supervise department staff and consultants.

    · Assume additional responsibilities as required.

    Minimum Requirements:

    · Demonstrated proficiency in all aspects of genealogical research.

    · Minimum of two years’ experience in curatorial and/or archival management.

    · Experience using collection management software (i.e. PastPerfect) to catalog and manage collections and projects.

    · Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and supervision.

    · Familiarity with web administration and html.

    · Must have project management experience.

    · Effectively communicate in print and on-line mediums. Prior experience writing newsletters, proposals and articles a plus.

    · Strong internet research skills and knowledge of online databases

    · Creative thinking and analytical skills

    · Demonstrated supervisory experience

    · Strong computer skills (Windows based, Microsoft Office applications)

    · Strong interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail and organization skills

    · Associate’s degree in history or related field.

    Preferred Requirements:

    · Bachelor’s Degree in History or related field

    · Knowledge of genealogical software, experience with RootsMagic

    · Certification or accreditation – Board of Certification of Genealogists, ICAPGen
