    About the Institution: The Matilda Joslyn Gage Foundation (www.matildajoslyngage.org) owns and operates a small, non-profit historic house museum and social justice dialogue center in Fayetteville, NY in the home of Matilda Joslyn Gage (1826-1898). Written out of history, Gage was a radical activist for human rights as a leading philosopher of the woman’s suffrage movement as well as a fearless advocate for abolitionism and Indigenous rights in Central New York. The Gage Foundation is dedicated to educating current and future generations about her life and work and its power to drive contemporary social change. Our museum features rooms based on the movements and ideas for which Gage fought and we also share about her influence on the Wizard of Oz as the mother-in-law of L. Frank Baum. We engage with local communities as active participants in the creation of our programs and exhibits based on how they recognize the relevance of Gage’s life and work in the world today.

    Job Description: We are currently in the start-up phase of the nonprofit life cycle and are looking for an Operations Director to oversee daily activities and improve operations in support of the new Executive Director. The Operations Director will ensure the smooth daily operations in the Gage Center. Reporting to the Executive Director of the Foundation, colleagues will also include an Artist-in-Residence, volunteers, and seasonal interns.

    Responsibilities of the position will include:
    Managing day-to-day business and operations of the nonprofit:

    • fulfilling administrative responsibilities and accounting duties;
    • organizing in-person and virtual programming and events;
    • supporting collections and exhibits;
    • marketing and social media development;
    • scheduling and giving tours;
    • running the gift shop and growing online sales revenue;
    • ordering supplies and restocking inventory; and
    • overseeing building and grounds maintenance.
    Furthering DEIA initiatives and ethical commitments to local communities in support of the Gage Foundation’s mission and strategic planning.
    Establishing and maintaining professional relationships with coworkers, visitors, volunteers, donors, etc. Working with partner organizations, volunteers, and other staff to increase the visibility of the Foundation at local, national, and international scales.
    Recruiting and organizing opportunities for volunteers as well as providing training, coordinating with volunteers, and delegating tasks in support of museum operations.
    Performing data collection and research in support of the Gage Foundation’s mission and strategic planning.

    Qualifications:
    The ideal candidate will have at least one (1) year of operations and administrative experience as well as one (1) year of either education or work experience in the nonprofit sector. Some museum experience is preferred but not required. This person will be deeply committed to social justice; skilled in human resources, business accounting, and customer service; highly organized with strong attention to detail and time management; able to work both independently as well as part of a team while exercising strong decision-making; excellent with written and verbal communication; experienced with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Zoom, and social media platforms; and possess or have an interest in developing skills with QuickBooks, Constant Contact, donor management software, collections management software, Square, GoDaddy, and RING platforms.

    The Operations Director will primarily work in the Gage Center Wednesday-Saturday with Tuesdays largely reserved for remote work. A hybrid-flexible work schedule and shared/alternating Saturdays is possible with seasonal variations.

    Salary Range: $40,000-$50,000

    Salary Type: Exempt
