    Institution: National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame

    About the Institution: The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame’s mission is to preserve and promote the history of thoroughbred racing in America and honor the sport’s most accomplished participants in the Official National Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame. The Museum has over 27,000 objects in its diverse collection of art, artifacts, and memorabilia. The John A. Morris Research Library houses more than 5,000 monographs, serials, and periodicals concerning thoroughbred racing in the United States and abroad. 

    Job Description: The Collections Manager has broad responsibilities for the preservation and care of the permanent collection and the John A. Morris Research Library. The Collections Manager reports to the Museum Curator and Director.

    Primary Responsibilities: 

    • Maintains digital and hard-copy files for collections and loans.
    • Manages the collections database PastPerfect and LibraryWorld online catalogue.
    • Serves as the primary contact for new acquisitions, processing deeds of gift, and coordinating shipping.
    • Executes and maintains incoming and outgoing loan agreements, receipts, condition reports, and coordinates transit arrangements.
    • Handles and approves all rights and reproduction inquiries of the permanent collection, including photography and filming requests within established museum policies.
    • Supports exhibition installation and deinstallation, including the preparation of collections objects for exhibition.
    • Monitors environmental conditions and integrated pest management in storage and exhibition spaces.
    • Coordinates with contract conservators for annual cleaning and care of outdoor sculpture and general care of the collection.
    • Assists with internal and external research requests.
    • Authors social media posts concerning the collection.
    • Responsible for preventive conservation and polishing of trophies.
    • Provides support for Museum events as needed.

    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, including art history, history, and museum studies. Master’s degree preferred.
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a cultural institution or museum. This may include relevant internships, work study, or volunteer experience.
    • Practical knowledge of object/art handling and ability to move large, heavy objects.
    • Museum collections database experience (Past Perfect preferred) and strong computer skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Photoshop, scanning applications, and digital photography a plus.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of packing, shipping, and museum standard care practices.
    • Must be able to work a flexible schedule during exhibition installations/ deinstallations and work well under tight deadlines.

    Salary Range: $40,000 - $46,000

    Salary Type: Non-Exempt
