About the Institution: The Cayuga Museum of History and Art, which includes the Case Research Laboratory Historic Site and Carriage House Theater, is a multi-disciplinary Museum Campus that has been open to the public in Auburn, NY since 1936.
Job Description: We are seeking an intern to assist with the research phase of a new permanent exhibition on the history of Cayuga County. This position is funded in part by the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct research within the Cayuga Museum’s collection
- Identify and assess collection objects to be exhibited, photograph as needed
- Write object descriptions
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong attention to detail
- Experience with object handling and archival research is preferred
- Ability to work independently and in a team
Requirements:
- Student enrolled in a graduate program in Museum Studies, Art History, or related field.
- Requires moderate physical activity. Climbing stairs necessary to access collections storage. Occasional lifting of supplies and materials less than 40 pounds.
- Available 15-20 hours per week for a total of 100 hours. The schedule may be flexible within our weekday hours of 9-5pm. A portion of the internship can be remote.
Internship Dates: Summer 2024, dates can be flexible. Approximate start date June 3, 2024
