    The Executive Director will assist the Board of Trustees in all aspects of managing the SLCHA. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Trustees, President and/or Personnel committee chairperson.

    Expected responsibilities for the Executive Director include but are not limited to the following:

    • Performs duties and functions of the Executive Director in accordance with the SLCHA By- Laws.
    • Develops and implements public relations strategies to promote St. Lawrence County history and SLCHA programs and activities.
    • Works closely with the Board of Trustees in developing and implementing fundraising plans.
    • Serves as chief steward and manager of SLCHA assets including the development and implementation of fiscal policies, maintenance of physical plant, and preservation of the Association’s collections.
    • Initiates and fosters cooperative efforts with other local organizations, public and private, to promote the mission of the SLCHA.
    • Develops and maintains a volunteer program.
    • Serves as communicator and liaison between the SLCHA Board of Trustees, SLCHA staff, the County Board of Legislators, the local government historians, and the general public.
    • Manages all operations of the SLCHA.
    • Other duties as may apply.

    Qualifications for the Executive Director include:

    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Public History, Museum Studies or a closely related field.
    • Minimum of two years’ experience working in a non-profit setting, preferably a historical association.
    • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices governing the operation of a historical house and museum and the maintenance of historical documents, records, and artifacts.
    • Knowledge of local history and historical source materials.
    • Good working knowledge of the principles and practices of financial management, public relations, and fundraising techniques.
    • Ability to organize and direct the work of staff and volunteers; minimum of two years’ experience preferred.

    Full time salaried position
    Salary range: $38,500 - $45,000
