PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP

Working in Real Life: Accessible AR in Historic House Museums

Rosanna Flouty

Director | Clinical Associate Professor, Museum Studies Program

New York University

Craig Kapp

Clinical Professor of Computer Science

New York University

During this 2-hour workshop, participants will explore Augmented Reality (AR) as a tool to promote engagement and support access to physical spaces for visitors with disabilities using multisensory tools. Participants will gain a greater understanding of digitally-based accessibility practices in small historic houses. They then will use their own images and/or video files to build their own accessible AR experience. After exploring various rapid prototyping tools designed for non-programmers, participants will learn how to construct an Augmented Reality experience. Our focus will be on software with free tiers for hobbyists and a simplified drag-and-drop interface. All levels welcome.

This workshop will take place at the Syracuse Marriott Downtown.

MANY Member $25; Non-Member $30

Advance registration required.
