    The Everson Museum of Art is Central New York’s premiere arts and cultural destination. Located in downtown Syracuse, the Everson typically serves approximately 60,000 visitors annually through a robust and dynamic menu of modern and contemporary art programs, exhibitions, and activities—both online and in person. With an operating budget of approximately $2m, the Everson relies on a diverse mix of funding sources, with a significant portion derived from private and corporate foundations and government agencies. The Grants Writer, reporting to the Director of Development, is a key member of the Everson’s fundraising team and contributes to the sustainability of the Museum’s ongoing mission-driven operations and meeting its audience-centered goals. The Grants Writer focuses on securing philanthropic support through grant writing and management as well as identifying new funding opportunities. 

    Key Responsibilities

    • ·       Help develop and implement strategy to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward foundation donors, with the goal of securing support for key exhibitions, programs, and initiatives.

    ·       Take lead on writing foundation, government, and corporate grant proposals in deadline-driven environment. 

    ·       Works with colleagues across departments to collect program information in a timely manner.

    ·       Research and identifiy new grant opportunities to support operations, programs, and special projects.

    ·       Develop and maintain annual grant calendar including deadlines for inquiries, proposals, and reports.

    ·       Develop annual grant revenue goals. Monitor and report on progress regularly.

    ·       Oversee entire grant cycle for funded projects. Liaise with other departments to track progress and use of funds. 

    ·       Ensure fulfillment of visibility credit, funder benefits, and reporting requirements.  

    ·       Attend relevant internal and external meetings and trainings as required to support fundraising efforts.

    ·       Identify opportunities for partnership and participation by local, state, and national elected officials and community advocates.

    ·       Provide additional support to the fundraising team as required. 

    Requirements

    The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years’ grant writing experience within a nonprofit organization, with a successful record of securing grant funds. This position requires exceptional written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to write clear, structured, articulate and persuasive proposals. The successful candidate must possess excellent project management and organizational skills, and be adept at working under pressure to meet established deadlines. Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills are essential as well as an ability to work with diverse internal and external constituents. The position entails a high level of detail, professionalism, and confidentiality. Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Familiarity with donor databases and museum environment a plus. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as required. 

    The Grants Writer is a full-time staff position. Salary is commensurate with experience, ranging from $42,000 to $55,000 along with a full benefits package. The Everson Museum of Art is an equal opportunity employer.
