    Dates: Start around April 1 2019, 24 hours per week; must be willing to work weekends; work shifts between 9:30am and 7:00pm   Compensation: @$20 per hour

    Olana State Historic Site, the home and studio of eminent Hudson River School painter Frederic Edwin Church, is a historic site administered by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, Taconic Region.  It is a designated National Historic Landmark and one of the most visited sites in the state.  The Olana Partnership, a private not-for-profit education corporation, works cooperatively with New York State to inspire the public by preserving and interpreting Olana, Frederic Church’s artistic masterpiece. Our collective vision is a fully restored Olana, vibrant with the activity of students, visitors, scholars and artists; and to be the most widely recognized artist’s home and studio in the world.

    The Olana Partnership is seeking numerous seasonal part-time professional Educators, with current drivers’ licenses, to work part-time (approx. 24 hours per week) during select seasonal months, which includes weekends and holidays during the months of April-November. Educators will deliver a professional, positive, and educational tour experience for Olana’s visitors by means of house and landscape tours. Educators will be paid to be formally trained, and are required to become familiar with Olana’s safety procedures, and enforce rules and regulations as needed for the well-being of the visitors and the protection of the site and the collection. Educators will also have responsibilities to assist guests in navigating the site in terms of welcoming and general information sharing, phone duties, and some basic office work. Educators will follow all guidelines for interpretation of Olana; perform minimal administrative duties relative to visitor ticketing, and other duties as they arise.

    Qualifications and Requirements:

    • ·         High School completion required.
    • ·         Bachelor’s Degree preferred, however a documented interest in at least one of the following: history, decorative arts, art history, landscape development and viewshed protection trends, education, or interpretation is encouraged
    • ·         English fluency required; other language fluency is a plus
    • ·         Current driver’s license and a clean driving record required
    • ·         Must be able to interact with public in a professional and courteous manner at all times
    • ·         Professional conduct, appearance, and ability to work independently is required
    • ·         Ability to stand for hours each day, walk the one mile loop including walking on uneven gravel carriage roads with typical outdoor/weather exposures, drive an electric vehicle, and ability to stay alert and engaged for long periods of time indoors and outdoors throughout the year is required; ability to lift 30 pounds.
