The Northport Historical Society Museum & Shop, located at 215 Main Street, Northport NY 11768, is conducting a search to fill the Society's senior staff position: Executive Director.
Applicants must have strong skills in administration, management and organizational development. Applicants should also have outstanding leadership skills, those required to manage and direct staff and volunteers to successfully carry out the Society annual calendar of lectures, programs and events.
Skill in organizational development means the ability to work with the Board president and the chairs of the various Board committees to further the Society's education and preservation mission, grow the Society's membership and to help accomplish the Society's long-term goals to grow and improve the Museum's offerings and position in the local community.
Applicants are expected to be highly motivated self-starters, with strong verbal and written communications skills. The Executive Director must also be comfortable multitasking and calm in face of crisis, as well as be comfortable establishing and maintaining warm relations with the local community. This includes individuals, Society members, local businesses and chambers of commerce as well as private and governmental grant sponsors among others.
Prior museum experience is a plus, as is experience with grant writing and event planning. Applicants must be computer literate. Software currently in use includes: Word, Excel, Past Perfect, Mailchimp, Donorview and Adobe suite. Social media and social media marketing experience will also be considered a plus.
The position of Executive Director is part-time, as are all salaried positions at the Museum. The Executive Director has the most hours, between 20-30 hours per week on average. Some of those hours may be on weekends and evenings, in coordination with the Society's calendar of programs and events.
The Board is looking to fill the position by the start of the new year. Salary will be determined commensurate with experience. To apply, please email your resume to Director@NorthportHistorical.org Please put "Director Position" in the Subject line.
