NORWICH, N.Y. – How does it feel to swing a blacksmith hammer or tease some raw wool? Find out during “A Visit from Leatherstocking Folk” as the Chenango County Historical Society’s (CCHS) popular “Third Thursday” seasonal programming continues. Join special guest Teresa Glisson, program development coordinator at The Farmers’ Museum, for an interactive presentation at 7 p.m. on June 20 at CCHS. “A Visit from Leatherstocking Folk” showcases the connection that The Farmers’ Museum in Cooperstown has to Chenango County. This immersive, hands-on experience features a sampling of the crafts and trades found throughout the country village at The Farmers’ Museum.

As one of the oldest rural life museums in the country, The Farmers’ Museum provides visitors with a unique opportunity to experience 19th century rural and village life firsthand through demonstrations and interpretive exhibits. Founded in 1943, The Farmers’ Museum preserves important examples of upstate New York architecture, early agricultural tools and equipment, and heritage livestock. Its collection of more than 23,000 items encompasses significant historic objects, ranging from butter molds to carriages, and hand planes to plows.
The Peleg Field Blacksmith Shop, Brooks Smokehouse, Empire State Carousel and more will be highlighted as participants revisit the traditions of Chenango County’s past. “A Visit from Leatherstocking Folk” will be held in the Loomis Barn on the CCHS campus.
