2024 Conference Scholarships

Giving Voice to Value

April 6 - 9, 2024 | Albany, NY

The Museum Association of New York (MANY) is proud to announce that 22 museum professionals from across New York State will attend the 2024 annual conference “Giving Voice to Value” in Albany, NY, April 6-9 with full scholarship support. Scholarships include conference registration, travel, hotel accommodation, workshop or special event registration, and complimentary individual MANY memberships for one year.

BIPOC Museum Professional in Museum Administration

Awarded to a Black, Indigenous, or Person of Color working in museum administration who has played a leadership role in advancing the capacity and sustainability of their museum. Scholarship includes conference registration, one workshop or special event registration, two nights at the Hilton Albany, up to $150 transportation/parking reimbursement, and complimentary individual MANY membership for one year.

Cassetti Annual Conference Scholarship

Awarded to a museum professional who has demonstrated creative leadership and has affected significant, positive change in the ways in which their museum engages with audiences. Scholarship includes conference registration, two nights at the Hilton Albany, up to $150 transportation/parking reimbursement, and complimentary individual MANY membership for one year.

William G. Pomeroy Foundation

Ten scholarships sponsored by the William G. Pomeroy Foundation for museum professionals working in a history-related NYS museum with an annual operating budget of $250,000 or less, and who have not attended a MANY annual conference in the past five years. Scholarship includes conference registration, one workshop or special event registration, two nights at the Hilton Albany, up to $400 transportation/parking reimbursement, and complimentary individual MANY membership for one year.

Scholarship includes conference registration, one workshop or special event registration, two nights at the Hilton Albany, up to $400 transportation/parking reimbursement, and complimentary individual MANY membership for one year.

Sponsored by Fireline Corporation, this scholarship is awarded to a museum professional working in a facilities position at a NYS museum. Scholarship includes conference registration, one workshop or special event registration, two nights at the Hilton Albany, up to $400 transportation/parking reimbursement, and complimentary individual MANY membership for one year.

To complete your application, you must submit the follow attachments as PDFs to conference@nysmuseums.org by 5 PM Friday, December 8, 2023.

          • 1-2 paragraph bio

Failure to submit these supporting materials will render your application incomplete and therefore ineligible for consideration.

Eligibility

Those eligible for a Conference Scholarship must be employed full time at a NYS museum except if you are applying for a Pomeroy Foundation or Gardiner Foundation scholarship where part-time, volunteer, or museum trustees are eligible. You may be eligible to apply for multiple scholarships but only one scholarship will be awarded.

Following the conference, scholarship recipients will be required to submit a 500 to 1,000 word summary of their conference experience which may be selected to be included in MANY's This Month in NYS Museums e-newsletter.

For travel reimbursement, all receipts and forms must be submitted no later than May 10, 2024.

FAQ 

Which scholarship should I apply for?

→ This is my first MANY conference and I work for a history-related museum with a budget under $250,000.

If your museum is history-related and you have not attended a MANY conference in the past five years, apply for the William G. Pomeroy Foundation scholarship. 

→ I work for a museum or historical society on Long Island, in Brooklyn, or in Queens with a budget under $250,000.

If your museum is located on Long Island, in Brooklyn, or in Queens apply for the Robert D. L. Gardiner Foundation scholarship.

If I receive a scholarship, will my travel be reimbursed?

Yes! Museum Professional in a Facilities Position, Gardiner, and Pomeroy Scholarship recipients will receive up $400 in travel reimbursement.

BIPOC and Cassetti Scholarship recipient will receive up to$150 in travel reimbursement. 

All travel reimbursement receipts and forms must be submitted to MANY no later than May 10, 2024. 

How do I register for the conference if I'm a scholarship recipient? 

All scholarship recipients will be given a special registration code before registration opens on January 22, 2024. MANY staff will contact you regarding your workshop or special event registration if your scholarship includes it. 

Why does my supervisor/executive director/board president need to approve my application?

We ask for approval for your scholarship application from your supervisor, executive director, or board president in order to ensure that if awarded, scholarship recipients will be able to attend the conference.
